I’m heart broken. I thought I was what she wanted! Apparently not…
Ok so her name is Tamara. I saw her one day in the bookstore. She was in the self-improvement section. (And you know how much I’m attracted to women who are into personal development!)
So anyways, I thought she was cute so I walked up and started talking to her.
We clicked right off the bat! So I asked her out and she said yes! I was so hyped.
We had our first day a few days later. It was great! We had dinner and then we went rollerskating. Conversation was great! We talked about family, our careers, our hobbies, and our life’s passions. She seemed totally interested in me.
The night was coming to an end and it was time to take her home. We pulled up to her house. I hopped out the car, ran to her side of the car and let her out. (That’s how you do it fellas!) Then I walked her to the front door.
I asked her if she had a good time. She said, “Yes!” By that time, my heart was beating crazy hard because I knew what I was about to do! Well, I got down on one knee, pulled a ring out of my right jacket pocket, and asked her to marry me!
And she said, “NO!!! Are you out of your mind? We just met!”
Can you believe that?!?!?!?!?!?!
You’re probably asking yourself why I would ask someone to marry me on the first date. Well if you’re a network marketer, then you’ve probably done the same thing! Over and over again! And the worse thing about it is that were taught to do so by the leaders in your company!
You ask their prospect to marry them (a.k.a join their business opportunity) up-front without first developing a relationship. So in order words, most network marketers are selling their business on the front-end. That is completely backwards and almost never works.
The reason that doesn’t work often is because your business opportunity is really a back-end product!! Your opportunity is extremely difficult to sell as an up-front product…which is why all your prospects keep saying no…like Tamara did!
Why is it ? Well like marriage, your business opportunity is a big commitment and often has a big price tag attached to it. So like marriage, what you want to do is build up to that commitment with a series of smaller commitments.
Here is the philosophy: It is easier to sell additional things to an existing customer than it is to acquire a new customer.
So then why not make your prospect a satisfied customer first before you present your business opportunity to them?
How can that be done? By selling them an information product first! This is called educational marketing.
By selling your prospect an educational product first, it will allow you to:
1. Create a buying relationship between you and your prospect
2. Establish trust and eliminate skepticism
3. Qualify your prospect by educating them on the skills needed to run a business.
So then when you offer your business opportunity to your prospect, they trust you since they’ve already bought something and found value in it. Your opportunity then comes the next logical step.
So please, for Tamara’s sake, no more proposing on the first date!
Yours In Success,
Nate Falconer

Nate GREAT JOB BRO now that is a powerful post because of the story you were telling you wrapped me up and then BLAM. You're very right about that post my friend congratulations on educating people through story and keeping it REAL. Glad you're back the world needs more Nate Falconer, SERIOUSLY!
Great Post! You hit the nail on the head with that one. I agree 100% Education and educating yourself as well as other people needs to come first. The rest will follow, "You have to give without want before you can have".
Well done Nate! I love the comparison and you are so right on. As a network marketer, I have done the same thing and…right again, that is how I was taught by the leaders in my company! Now I am wiser and I feel like a load has been lifted off my chest.
You are very welcome Pam! Glad I could be of service. Stay connected!
